INTO SCHOOL, OUT OF HUNGER

When hunger strikes a community, children suffer most. Hunger drains them of their will and ability to learn.

WFP school meals encourage hungry children to attend school and help them concentrate on their studies. Click here to learn more, and here to see The WFP School Feeding Fact Sheet.

In Winchester we are aiming to get as many runners, walkers, athletes, non-athletes, able-bodied or less able-bodied as we possibly can to raise awareness of child hunger, and to raise money to end child hunger.

Date: Sunday 5th November 2006
Time: 11:00am
Place: Peter Symonds College Grounds (our thanks to the Principal, Neil Hopkins and the PSC staff for their support). Click for map.

Runs
There will a short walk/run of 2.5k (1.5 miles), a medium run/walk of 5k (3 miles) and a longer run of 10k (6 miles). Check routes.
Note: We don’t have a vertical profile of the routes, but the total vertical distance from the lowest point to the highest on the longest route is less than 50 metres.

Costs
There is a minimum registration fee for each participant, shown below. We are aiming for the MAXIMUM of money to go to the children, and the minimum for administration, so we would LOVE you to make donations over the minimum registration fee, and welcome participants who raise sponsorship for their run.

What do I get?
For your registration fee you get to take part, you get a delicious third-world celebratory veggie lunch afterwards, and a T-Shirt.

Where does the money go?

It goes to WFP's school feeding programmes in the developing world.

We use the UK-registered charity so that we can claim Gift Aid--that means that the UK government will give us an extra £0.28 for every £1 we raise. So PLEASE tick the "Gift Aid" box on the registration form, and please ask your sponsors to fill in their name and address, and tick the "Gift Aid" box on the sponsorship forms.

"for just $34.00 USD the World Food Programme (WFP) can feed a child for a whole year"

At the current exchange rate, that's £18 to feed a child for a year. If we got 500 people running in Winchester, and they each raised £54, then we could feed 1500 children for a year.

IF EVERYONE GETS THE GIFT AID BOX TICKED ON THE SPONSOR FORM, WE CAN FEED AN ADDITIONAL 420 CHILDREN.
